How we help seniors in Auckland relocate their technology:

Staying connected with family and friends matters, so your technology deserves a smooth, well-planned transition too.

How to move your technology yourself: a DIY checklist.

As with any move, moving to a village can be both exciting and a bit overwhelming.  After all, there are so many details to keep track of, plans to make, and schedules to stay on top of.

Quite often, tech devices and related services are an afterthought. But they deserve a bit more attention, as we’ve come to rely so heavily upon them for staying in touch with friends, loved ones, and the world around us. And you know you’re going to want to put your feet up and watch TV on your first evening in your new abode.

Here are some steps you can take to make it easier:

  • Gather Your Devices

Make a list of what you use day-to-day: smartphone, tablet, computer, TVs, printer, modem, landline phones, etc. This helps you know exactly what needs to come with you (and what you want to donate or bring to E-Waste recycling).

  • Check Your Services

Note who provides your TV, internet, WiFi, and phone services. Write down account numbers, passwords, and any upcoming billing dates. And contact those services to coordinate the changes. It’s also a good idea to speak with your new village contact to verify which services are compatible in your new home.

  • Plan Your MoveOver Dates

Choose when you’d like your services to stop at your old home and start at your new village home. This avoids gaps in internet or phone access.

  • Decide How Much Help You Want

You can do some things yourself or have someone handle everything — packing devices, transferring services, reconnecting equipment, and making sure it all works.

  • Prepare Your Devices for Travel

Unplug gently, label cords, and keep remotes and chargers together. A small bag or box just for tech makes moving day easier.

  • Set Up Your New Home

Once you arrive, reconnect your essentials first — WiFi, phone, TV. Then bring each device back online one at a time so nothing feels rushed.

  • Test Everything Slowly

Make a cup of tea, take your time, and check: Email works, calls go through, TV channels are right, printer prints, you can download your favourite books, and your favourite apps open.

  • Ask for Ongoing Support

If you’d like regular help or a friendly checkin after you’ve settled, you can arrange that with us.

With proper planning, those digital loose ends don’t have to be a source of headache or agitation during this exciting time.
